Patios & Walkways

Patios and Walkways are both important aspects of home improvement projects. Aside from providing a safe, easy surface for travel, walkways and patios can add curb appeal to your home. If you are considering building a walkway, you need to understand some terms to make the process easier. Grading is the process of moving soil in order to create a level area before building a walkway or patio. For example, a walkway where many people will walk should be wider than one where only few people will use it.

Pool Decks

When constructing a pool deck, consider a variety of different materials for the stonework. Some of the most popular are travertine and limestone. Travertine is porous, so it easily absorbs water, while also resisting mold and algae growth. In addition, travertine is relatively easy to care for and can last for centuries if properly maintained.

Retaining Walls

Retaining walls are often made of various materials, such as concrete, brick, or stone. The strength of the retaining walls depends on the quality of the soil. In San Antonio, frost isn't a concern so one doesn't have to worry about making provisions to avoid frost heave, a condition in which water within the soil freezes and expands and causes the wall to shift. But regardless, to ensure the strength of the retaining wall, it is necessary to test the soil's bearing capacity.

Outdoor BBQ & Fire Pits

If you're looking for an attractive, functional outdoor space, consider installing a stone BBQ and fire pit. These are popular, eye-catching features that will attract family and friends for marshmallow roasts, as well as adults for cocktails. Whether you want to keep the flames burning in the winter, or use them to gather with friends and family in the summer, a stone fire pit can add a touch of class to any outdoor setting.

Drain Installation

When installing a new drainage system for a landscape project, there are several important things to remember. One of the first steps is to find drainage rock. This stone, commonly known as pea stone, can be used to fill the trench and create a drainage area. The size of the stone should be around 1/2 to 3/4 inches. Coarse rocks will move water faster than smooth stones. If a drainage pipe is too narrow, a larger trench should be dug.
